TAKE ON HATE demands hate crime investigation of Chapel Hill shooting

Posted on February 13, 2015

Join the Campaign to TAKE ON HATE as we take action for Deah, Yusor and Razan.

Sign our petition to call for U.S. Department of Justice Attorney General Eric Holder and the FBI to open a full and rigorous federal hate crime investigation into the tragic killing of the three vibrant young American Muslims in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23; his wife, Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21; and her sister, Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, were brutally shot to death in their home on Feb. 10. Police have arrested and charged a neighbor of the young college students. Police, in their initial analysis, have said that the incident was the result of an ongoing parking dispute between the neighbors. However, the family of the victims strongly refute that claim. The circumstances surrounding this incident and previous threats by the neighbor, combined with the anti-Muslim sentiment expressed in his social media posts, warrant a federal hate crime investigation. While the FBI has opened a preliminary investigation, we must demand that they open a full investigation.
