Rooted in the Arabic word aman, or safety, “Aman Zones” is a multi-year project that works within our local communities towards a collective commitment to end hate and discrimination. The first step in this initiative is to conduct a comprehensive community assessment about how racism impacts our communities and neighborhoods. This evaluation will allow us to build platforms that define safety based on the needs and lived experiences of community members, and that are aimed toward local structural and cultural shifts for transformative social change. Through grassroots outreach, Aman Zones will engage community members, institutions, schools, and businesses in becoming autonomous forces in the broader anti-racism movement across the U.S.
