TELL YOUR GOVERNOR: Stand Up for Refugees!

(see below)

Depending on your state, you can contact your governor about one of three things: thank them for their commitment to welcoming all refugees, demand that they reconsider their dangerous and disappointing refusal to accept Syrian refugees, or urge them to publicly declare their support of all refugees if they’ve remained silent.

Here is how you can take action:

1) If your governor has expressed support for Syrian refugees …

Thank your governor for promising to continue welcoming all refugees, including Syrians. These elected leaders have stepped up to do the right thing, and we must show them our support and appreciation. We’ve made it easy for you! Click here for a list of governors who have said 'yes' to refugees, including their contact information and Twitter handles, and a sample letter and tweet you can send to them today.

2) If your governor has expressed opposition to Syrian refugees settling in your state …

Tell your governor that you are disappointed with their dangerous decision to undermine the efforts to resettle Syrian refugee families. Their misguided, reckless actions and ill-informed rhetoric does not do justice to the millions of refugees and immigrants who have made this country their home. Closing our borders will not increase security, but will leave thousands of innocent people  vulnerable to danger. Click here for a list of governors who have said ‘no’ to refugees, including their contact information and Twitter handles, and a sample letter and tweet you can send them today.

3) If your governor has remained silent …

Call on your governor to publicly promise to welcome all refugees, including Syrians. Let’s encourage our elected leaders to step up to do the right thing. We’ve made it easy for you! Click here for a list of governors who have remained silent on this issue, including their contact information and Twitter handles, and asample letter and tweet you can send to them today.

4) Sign a petition

Make your voice heard by adding your name to petitions being circulated in support of Syrian refugees, such as Governors: Stop Your Collective Punishment of Refugees in Need and Welcome Refugees in Chicago.
